20 April 2008 - One of the problems with being a early fruit is the possibility of being touched by frost. The black center, or "black eye" of these blossoms means that they were touched by frost (or frozen). That killed the blossom. It will not grow into a strawberry. So you see that a late frost can really hurt the strawberry fields. |
