Poole’s General Store
Pooles StoreSeneca,Maryland

If you have never been to a honest-to-goodness general store, here is an opportunity for you. Turn RIGHT out of the farm driveway. Take the first road to the LEFT (Montevideo Road), which will take you about 1.5 miles and includes a one-lane bridge. Just before the road ends at River Road, turn LEFT onto Old River Road for about 100 yards, and you will see Poole’s General Store, run by the Poole family. Excellent people and neighbors!

The store hours are: Monday through Saturday, 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. They are closed on Sunday.Pooles Store Sign

Potomac River; Seneca Lock and Aquaduct; and the C&O Canal and Towpath
Seneca, Maryland

The closest public entrance to the C&O Canal and Towpath is right across the road from Poole's Store (above).

The C&O Canal and Towpath are 187 miles long. It starts in Georgetown (Washington, D.C.) and continues to Washington County, Maryland. The Canal is mostly in disrepair now, except in Georgetown and a few other places, but it was once a major part of transporting goods along the Potomac River. In Seneca, there is a Lock House, the old Lock as well as a Aquaduct and the Towpath. Access to the Canal and Towpath are directly across from Pooles Store. On some weekends, the Montgomery County Historical Society has open house at the Lock House at Seneca.
